Water, Sanitation & Hygiene – WASH

Common barriers observed in day-to-day functioning of persons with disabilities, especially girls and women, while accessing WASH and violence faced by them remains un-reported.

Samarthyam provide approaches and strategies with know how to practitioners to incorporate access elements during planning, designing, and implementing of WASH services and facilities.

We undertake and facilitate capacity building trainings on Accessible WASH and promotion of universal access, which benefits women with disabilities and the entire community. Cost effective and practical solutions are provided for ease of implementing in diverse sites and terrains.

We train professional and practitioners on gender sensitize and friendly WASH design and services. Our architect and access audit team is pioneer in capacity building of both professionals and individuals with disabilities to advocate, promote and implement community and household WASH especially toilets for girls and women with disabilities. Samarthyam’s several publications and guidelines have highlighted designs of accessible WASH.

Samarthyam support in monitoring: planning, designing and implementation of community toilets and individual household toilets.

We support government and service providers to ensure access, reach, and usage in the toilets.

Accessible environment encourage communities to develop their own strategies for promoting accessibility and prevention of violence which arise due to inaccessible WASH.
